A typical day hunting at the Bar Z... begins around 4:30 in the morning. A home-cooked country breakfast is served and we'll gather our hunters around the table to plan that day's strategy. After that, and well before first light, we'll stike out for one of our roughly 20 or so blinds that we've set up on the best hunting spots we know to be on the ranch. As dawn breaks across this prickly pear and mesquite brush country, we'll be ready and waiting. We normally hunt 2 to 3 hours in the morning and another 2 to 3 hours in the afternoon.

In between, we return to the lodge to relax and eat lunch before going back out to the stand.

We've taken care to make sure your hunt is going to be everything you've always heard about whitetail deer hunting in this part of South Texas.

We want to provide very exclusive hunting priveleges to our hunters and guests.

Every trip is a guided 1X1 hunt with experienced guides.

For unlimited hunts, we have a maximun of 2 hunters. For trophy hunts, we take 2 to 3 hunters at one time. And for our management hunts, we allow up to 4 hunters.

**We also cater to corporate groups.**

A typical hunt begins when our hunters on Thursday morning and depart on the following Sunday afternoon.

We do strictly rifle hunts on the ranch as of this year, and as you know by now, we manage for and focus on big whitetail bucks. If our guests are lucky, though, they will be able to take a trophy boar hog, a javelina and/or a bobcat if they cross paths with either one of these 'bonus' animals during their time afield.

As previously shown, we do most of our hunting from stationary deer blinds, but we will do some rattling during the rut and even some 'spot & stalk' if the opportunity arises.

In our many years of chasing trophy deer, we've found that it's easier to pattern the bigger bucks early in the season when they're visiting food plots and corn feeders. It's how we take a lot of our trophy-sized deer.

Hunting this way also helps us to judge the size and age of the buck before we squeeze the trigger.

Hunting for us begins in October and goes through December.

We have approximately 21 ptotein feeders that put out nearly 50,000 lbs a year from January to October. In the fall, we stop the protein and start feeding corn to get ready for the hunting season.

Scouting happens year around. Our guides will sit and scout with video and cameras and we also use game cams so we can cover a lot more area. This intensifies in the months before hunting season and a lot is done between hunts in order to pattern trophy-sized animals and certain management bucks.

We won't tell you how good are hunting is, we want you to see for yourself. Thumb through our Trophy Book and our Scouting Pics pages to get an idea of what kind of deer we have at the Bar Z.
